Leeds Children's Physiotherapy was formed by Dawn Wills in 2007, in response to demand for a private specialist paediatric musculoskeletal physiotherapy clinic. Over time, strong links were developed with GP practices, private medical insurers, Consultants working privately and in the NHS, and other allied health professionals.
As referral numbers to the practice grew, it became necessary for Dawn to expand her team to bring on board other specialist paediatric musculoskeletal physiotherapists.
In 2007, Leeds Children's Physiotherapy was also commissioned by the NHS, to provide musculoskeletal physiotherapy services for children within the Leeds area. Growing rapidly over the intervening years, this has become a well-established and highly respected service across the Leeds area. (Referrals accepted).
As Leeds Children's Physiotherapy has grown in size, it has been necessary to expand the number of locations from which clinics operate. Leeds Children's Physiotherapy now has 5 clinic locations spread across Leeds to allow the widest possible number of patients to be seen close to their home.
It is important to recognize that children are not simply 'small adults'. As the musculoskeletal system is still developing and maturing, the problems seen in children and adolescents often differ from those seen in adults.
There are a number of orthopaedic conditions which are seen only in childhood and simply do not exist in the adult population.
